8 Illuminations // 10 Days of Christmas Blog Tour

Welcome back to the party! Today’s topic is “Illumination.”

1. Candles.

There’s just something about candles that’s christmassy… and there’s just something about candles that’s lovely and peaceful and awing. I don’t own any because 1) little kids are not the best around candles; 2) I’m a klutz and am afraid of burning my house up by knocking over a candle by mistake; and 3) most candles’ scent makes me sick. But I love scentless candles!

2. Christmas Lights.

I don’t own any. But I lovvvvvve Christmas lights SO much. And they come in such gorgeous colours!! My favourites are the multicoloured kind, but I also love white ones—they’re all so pretty!

3. Snow-Globes.

I don’t know if snow-globes are actually illuminating, but they always struck me as having some sort of soft light about them, so maybe some do? Anyhow, I’m going to count them as illumination.

I love snow-globes!! They are so cute and so pretty!

4.  Twinkle Lights.

Not to be confused with Christmas lights, because they’re not the same.

But they still strike me as Christmassy. And they are wayyyyyy too gorgeous. <333

5. Lava Lamps.

I’m sure lava lamps aren’t actually christmassy for you. But for me, they are. I’ve only ever seen one lava lamp in real life, and I generally only saw it once a year. It was my Mémère’s (great-grandmother) and we generally only saw her once a year—at Christmastime. So lava lamps mean Christmas to me. 🙂 Looking up pictures on Pinterest made me nostalgic!

6. Fireplace.

Again, this may not be totally christmassy for you. But one year, my family drove to Alberta and had Christmas in October with my mother’s siblings and parents. And we had a fireplace and did Christmas by the fireplace. <33

7. Window Lights.

I can’t find a good picture; this was the best I could do. But my Mémé always has had window Christmas light decorations like this, and to me it’s VERY Christmassy!

8. The Bible.

The one time I did Christmas with my English family, my grandfather read aloud Luke 2 by the light of the fire on Christmas Eve. I cried. <33 Best illumination ever is the Light that came into the world.

Hello! :) I'm Katja. I'm a Canadian bibliophile, book reviewer, writer, and child of God. I love too many things to name, but among them are chocolate, heirlooms, history, fancy handwriting, grammar & punctuation, laughter, tearjerking books, lists, organized bookshelves, pink roses, flowing skirts, hymns, and pretty much anything old-fashioned, beautiful, & classy.

  1. Lava lamps and snow globes!!! 😄😄😄 I have an obsession with all things that glow, shake, and move around. My phone case is full of water and glitter, and I dreamed of having it for years before I got it. It makes me happy to watch the heart-shaped confetti pieces swirl. 😂 And I’ve owned a handful of lava lamps (usually cheap ones in a variation of colors that eventually were thrown away).
ANYWAY. Sorry for the ramble. As you can tell, I just sorta get excited about stuff like this. 😉🤩

      1. Update: got myself another lava lamp and set it up on the bookshelf in my room. 😍😍😍 I also have a glitter lamp on the desk by my bed. They’re the best everrrr. 😄

  2. Ah! I love all of these! Lava lamps aren’t particularly Christmasy to me, but I still find them fascinating. We will occasional light a few candles where the youngster can’t get to them, but every snow globe we’ve ever had ended up in pieces on the floor – which is sad because I love snow globes.
And yes! Jesus is the best Light!! 😊
