Why do we celebrate Christmas?
Last Sunday, I shared some Scriptures about the birth of Christ. Go read them here.
The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light.
They that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined.
Deep darkness covered the earth, but the Lord has arisen. His glory has been seen.
A bright light has appeared for Jew and Gentile. Not only do God’s chosen people have the light, so do the others. The ends of the earth have salvation. All nations, all people, all men, may have the light of life.
The light of the world has come. He that follows this light shall not walk in darkness.
Glory, truth, and mercy have arrived.
The King of the World is here. The government of the earth is in his hands. He shall reign forever, in peace and justice.
He is the Wonderful One. He is a a cause of astonishment and admiration. He is marvellous and amazing.
He is the Counsellor, with all wisdom and sagacity.
He is the Mighty God. He is powerful. He is great. He possesses might. He is might. He has all power, authority, and strength. He is God.
He is everlasting. He endures through all time. He is the Eternal One. He is a Father forever.
He is the Prince of Peace. He is the One who gives quiet and tranquillity, freedom, calm.
He is great.
He is the Son of the Highest.
He preaches good tidings to those who are willing to listen.
He heals the broken-hearted.
He cares for the poor.
He proclaims liberty to those who are captive.
He frees those whose who are enchained.
He delivers the blind.
He comforts the mourners.
He gives beauty to those who sit in ashes.
He gives oil of joy to those who mourn.
He gives a spirit of thankfulness and gratitude to those who are heavy.
He has come to make men righteous.
He has come to make us the Lord’s own.
He is the Word of God, everlasting, from the beginning.
He is the truth.
He is the Creator.
He is life.
He is the light of men.
The people which sat in darkness saw great light; and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up.
He has come to shine in the darkness. He lighteth every man who cometh into the world.
The Light has come into the world.
This is why we celebrate.
The Light of men is here.
The Lord has come to dwell among us.
He has come to give his life for many, to save us from our sins.
Easter is coming.
“The good man is perished out of the earth: and there is none upright among men: they all lie in wait for blood; they hunt every man his brother with a net. That they may do evil with both hands earnestly, the prince asketh, and the judge asketh for a reward; and the great man, he uttereth his mischievous desire: so they wrap it up. The best of them is as a brier: the most upright is sharper than a thorn hedge: the day of thy watchmen and thy visitation cometh; now shall be their perplexity. Trust ye not in a friend, put ye not confidence in a guide: keep the doors of thy mouth from her that lieth in thy bosom. For the son dishonoureth the father, the daughter riseth up against her mother, the daughter in law against her mother in law; a man’s enemies are the men of his own house.
Therefore I will look unto the Lord; I will wait for the God of my salvation: my God will hear me. Rejoice not against me, O mine enemy: when I fall, I shall arise; when I sit in darkness, the Lord shall be a light unto me.
I will bear the indignation of the Lord, because I have sinned against him, until he plead my cause, and execute judgment for me: he will bring me forth to the light, and I shall behold his righteousness. Who is a God like unto thee, that pardoneth iniquity, and passeth by the transgression of the remnant of his heritage? he retaineth not his anger for ever, because he delighteth in mercy. He will turn again, he will have compassion upon us; he will subdue our iniquities; and thou wilt cast all their sins into the depths of the sea.“
