7 Favourite Christmas Covers // 12 DOC 2020

I found this idea on Faith’s list of post ideas for the 12 DOC and thought it was really fun! So here goes! 😉 Hopefully these covers will catch you as much as they caught me, because they’re all worth reading. 😉

1. The Christmas Doll by Elvira Woodruff

In a heartwarming novel that is destined to become a Christmas classic, acclaimed author Elvira Woodruff tells the story of two orphaned sisters whose lives are forever changed by a magical doll.
Lucy and Glory are orphaned sisters with no real place to call home. Only their memories of a beautiful doll named Morning Glory brighten their bleak lives. When a deadly fever sweeps through the workhouse where the girls live, Lucy and Glory flee to the mean streets of London.
One day the girls find an old battered doll that Glory senses is their beloved Morning Glory. But Morning Glory is no ordinary doll–the girls learn that she has magical powers that will change their lives in amazing ways.. With the help of the doll, the sisters discover the true meaning of the Christmas spirit.

I always thought this book looked so lovely and old-fashioned whenever I saw it around on the blogosphere. Then this year it was gifted to me and I read it and I love it even more! 😉

*disclaimer: there is no magic in this book. I have no clue why the synopsis says the doll has magical powers*

2. Tin Can Serenade by Amanda Dykes.

Two homes in the mountains
Snowed in for winter’s keep;
A river in between them,
A rope tight o’er the deep.
A mother and her daughter,
A father and his son,
A cottage and a cabin,
A story yet unspun.
But time did freeze a tin can
Dangling from that rope
A messenger from days gone by,
Echoing long lost hope.
Until a cold November day
Saw decades fall away;
Young hands inscribed a folded scrap,
A missive sent to say…

So begins the plucky correspondence of Timothy and Genevieve, two children about to uncover a story long-buried… one filled with love, with loss, and with hope. An enchanting Christmas story laced with joy, God’s healing hand in the broken places of life weaves through each letter passed over the river in that tin-can strung from the rusted pulley.
Enter into a simpler time in this petite tale, written to be just long enough to tuck into a stolen moment as you rest your feet and quiet your heart in the bustle of a busy season.

I need to reread this story. ;P I don’t quite remember what happens. But I remember that I loved it. And I still love the cover!

3. Behold by Faith Potts.

A collection of short stories honoring the birth of the Savior.
From two siblings caught up in the harrowing days of World War II to separated foster children in the US…
From a memorable road trip across the Southeast to the reunion of a war-torn family…
You’ll be swept into the Christmas spirit with the endearing stories tucked inside these pages. The storylines range from family to romance to the bond of community, with settings scattered across America and beyond.
Behold the beauty of the Savior’s birth with this gathering of stories that warm the soul and bless the heart.

This is a fun collection of Christmas stories—four, if I remember correctly! I think this cover is just gorgeous and the back is just as pretty as the front, which is rare in indie books!

4. Distorted Glass by Sarah Holman.

Sixteen-year-old Jared is sure that this Christmas season is going to be the worst ever for his family. His fifteen-year-old sister, Amber, is scaring their whole family with how little she is eating and her obsession with winning a beauty pageant.
When Jared seeks help from his pastor, he comes up with a plan to help his sister by Christmas. As the days pass and he sees no change in his sister, he wonders if he can reach his goal.
A Christmas short story about faith, family, and unconditional love.

I love this cover and the significance of it 🙂 I have a similar necklace that I picked dup at ValueVillage because it reminded me of this cover!

5. Christmas Smiles by Rebekah A. Morris

This was Laina’s second Christmas without her parents, who had died in an accident, and she was sure it would bering nothing but tears, because she and her aunt couldn’t seem to get along. When a frightening experience occurs, Laina, her cousin, and her aunt and uncle find unexpected cause for smiles.

This is definitely my favourite of the Christmas Collection covers!! It’s so simple and yet so pretty.

6. A Very Bookish Christmas by Sarah Holman, Rebekah Jones, J. Grace Pennington, & Kate Wills.

Four stories.
Four book-lovers.
Four feel-good Christmas stories.
This is a limited edition novella collection.
The anthology includes:
Molly and Anna by Sarah Holman (inspired by Pollyanna)
Gingerbread Treasures by Rebekah Jones (inspired by a Sherlock Holmes mystery)
Sylvie of Amber Apartments by J. Grace Pennington (inspired by Anne of Green Gables)
Sincerely, Jem by Kate Willis (inspired by Daddy-Long-Legs)

This book is about to disappear after Christmas, so go snatch it up now! It’s a lovely collection. Three of the four stories ended up among my top favourite books. 🙂 They have all been published independently as well, so you can look them up!

7. Through the Tunnel by Rebekah A. Morris.

“I hate being a foster kid!”
Fourteen-year-old Lissa had thought those words dozens, if not hundreds, of times over the last twelve years. She and her twin brother, Leigh, had been foster kids for as long as they could remember. Naturally shy, this life of bouncing around from one foster home to another, of changing schools mid-term, and of never having a real place they could call home had left Lissa with feelings of insecurity and doubt. Would they ever have a real home? Why didn’t anyone want them? Then one cold, winter afternoon, Lissa persuades her brother to make believe that a tunnel under a snow covered bridge is the entrance to a new world and a new life; together they walk through it, and it changes their lives forever.

I have not read this story yet, but I’ve heard amazing things of it and I hope to read it soon! I absolutely love the cover and I have been looking forwards to it for a long time. XP

So there you are! What are some of your favourite Christmas covers?

  1. Unfortunately, I haven’t read any of these books, but I love the covers!

And thanks for the note on “The Christmas Doll”, because I always thought the cover was so beautiful and old-fashion, but I wasn’t sure about the “magical powers” part.
